Remote Learning at Merrylands

Isolating due to a positive PCR test

In the event of your child receiving a positive PCR test result, you must notify the school that they will not be attending. Once notified, your child’s class teacher will upload work through Tapestry if in Nursery, Reception or Year 1, or Seesaw if in Year 2-6. There is no expectation for your child to complete this work whilst they are unwell, but it will be available for them to complete once they are feeling better. The class teacher will monitor any work that is completed and upload additional tasks where needed.

School closures

In the event of a school closure the teachers and support staff will ensure that high quality lessons and tasks are being set remotely using Tapestry and Google Classroom.

Remote learning in the Early Years and Year 1 will be set on Tapestry and in Year 2-6 the children will be using Google Classroom.

At the beginning of each week a timetable will be shared on Tapestry and Google Classroom for each class of the lessons due to take place across the week. We will be offering a mix of recorded teaching inputs, tasks, online written support as well as live support sessions.

Children will also have the opportunity to see and hear their teacher with stories being read weekly by the class teacher, or another member of staff within the year group. Work will be marked daily by members of the year group teaching team where possible.

The time being spent online will naturally be increasing with this move to remote learning, and therefore weekly posts, videos and tasks will be shared to raise the profile and teach children about staying safe online.

Live sessions

In the event of a school closure some live sessions will be delivered through Zoom. The live support sessions will look different across the school and will be for different purposes and will be delivered through Zoom.  Once appropriate permissions have been gained, staff will set up the meetings and send the login details for the meetings to parents.  Only children who have written consent will be able to join the live sessions. We have also spread out the sessions so that larger families can try and balance when the laptop/tablet is used to access the available sessions.

Reception and KS1

The live sessions for these year groups will be to promote social interaction. One teacher from each year will deliver the live session each day to the year group. During the session the teacher may read a story, share work that has been completed that day and plan an activity for the children to do.

Year 3 and 4

There is no expectation to participate in the live support/learning sessions and you may continue using Google Classroom and Tapestry as you have been, and there is also no expectation that you attend every session.

We will continue to review the provision of home learning to ensure that we are providing the best support for the Merrylands community, I am sure you can appreciate the difficulties we face as there is not a ‘one fit for all’.

Accessing remote learning

If you are unable to access Tapestry, Google Classroom or Seesaw please inform the office who may be able to provide alternative arrangements.
